Her Story

About Hanna

Hanna Maus is building a professional persona that combines process engineering with data and analytics. With most of her career spent in manufacturing and operations and the last two years focused specifically on data, she draws on hands-on floor experience to understand processes from beginning to end. At her packaging company role, she solves large-scale process problems that affect financials and production statistics, then uses data to explain root causes and drive improvements. She is currently enrolled in business intelligence analytics at DeVry University, having started her higher education path with engineering technology in IoT and an emphasis on automation and control. She earned her GED after being homeschooled and holds a Lean Six Sigma certification. Her approach reflects a commitment to continuous learning, including self-directed study in Python, SQL, and related tools, as well as personal projects that explore manufacturing data and economic indicators.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Hanna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I've been through a lot in my life. If it were not for my ability to eventually just not give up. I am determined, I am stubborn, very, very stubborn, and it has served me well, because I don't give up. If I can't find the answer to a question that I want, I will figure out how to answer it. I will figure out how to fix the thing broken that needs fixed, I will figure it out.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Know what your capacity is, and communicate it clearly. And then, if it's not respected, don't force yourself into a situation that you can't manage.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't let men tell you that you can't do something just because you're a woman. Don't. There's a ceiling there. And you can break it. It's hard, and some days it will... And some days you're gonna sit in a car or a desk and cry, because you just had to eat some worms that day. But it's worth it. It's worth the work, it's worth the effort.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

A lot of the challenges in the industry are ironing out supply and demand issues, so shipping and receiving, transportation and logistics. Supply and demand means they're higher and supply to meet that demand, and sometimes the supplies required are difficult to obtain. As far as opportunities go, there's always room for improvement. That's the whole process engineering, the Lean Six Sigma of it. You utilize as many factors as you can to reduce waste.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I'm really big on character values. Honesty, transparency, integrity. I cannot indicate to anybody how important those things are across your life, personally and professionally. The values matter. Somebody's integrity matters, their ability to be honest with you matters.
