Her Story

About Hannah

I knew I always wanted to work in amusement parks. I grew up going to Disney, and I found a passion for working with people, being in a place where people love to be and have a great day. That passion led me to pursue a degree in hospitality and tourism management, where I completed three internships that gave me invaluable professional experience. I worked at the JW Marriott, then went down to do a Disney College Program where I worked as a cast member at the Walt Disney World Resort, and also worked at the West Michigan Whitecaps, a minor league baseball team in Grand Rapids. When I graduated last year in December, I was looking for a full-time opportunity in the amusement park industry. Living just 40 minutes from Michigan's Adventure, I applied for leadership positions and landed my current role as Manager of Admissions and Guest Experience. In this position, I oversee everything at the front of the park, including our parking team, ticket booths where we sell season passes and daily tickets, turnstiles where we scan guest tickets, our guest services team that handles inquiries for guests inside the park, and our season pass office. I'm also the live entertainment manager, overseeing all of our entertainment offerings at the amusement park. Coming into this position on the younger side of our management team and being able to turn my Disney experience into a management role right out of college is probably my most notable achievement so far.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best advice I'd have is not to wait until you feel completely ready to take an opportunity. Some of my biggest moments of growth have come from stepping into roles where I had to learn quickly and kind of figure things out as I go. It wasn't something that I was like, okay, I'm 100% ready to take on this next step. I guess that mindset has helped me get to where I am now, especially in the amusement park or hospitality industry, where things are so fast-paced, and you have to really think on your feet.
