About Hannah
Hannah Miller serves as a Sport Psych Therapist at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. She recently completed her PhD in sport exercise and performance psychology from West Virginia University after earning a master's in kinesiology from Michigan State University with an emphasis on the psychosocial aspects of sport and physical activity. As a former competitive figure skater who specialized at a young age and pursued high-level goals, Miller was inspired to enter this field by the advocacy and support of her own sport psychologist during her athletic career. In her role, she provides holistic care to athletes of various ages and sport backgrounds, addressing mental performance, mental health, physical well-being, social needs, sleep, and diet while prioritizing the athlete as a human first. Miller is a member of the Athlete Advisory Committee within U.S. Figure Skating and continues to build her expertise in applied settings while staying involved in research and sport organizations.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Hannah
01What do you attribute your success to?
It's a mix of family support and hard work. My family always believed in me and inspired me to chase my goals. It also took a lot of hard work and the willingness to overcome setbacks, but without my support system I wouldn't have been able to stay resilient.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Chase what energizes you and be flexible in the journey. An educational path or career isn't going to come without road bumps, but if you care about and are passionate about it, it's easier to be flexible and continue to feel energized. It's also okay to change or pivot if you're not loving it, whether that's the population or moving toward research instead of applied work.
