About Hazel
Hazel Laureano serves as Project Controls Manager 2 at Manhattan Building and Design Group, managing project controls across Florida from Naples to Tallahassee. She has spent 19 years in the construction industry, including 10 years focused on project controls, after beginning her career on construction sites helping with her father's subcontracting company in stucco and plastering. Laureano holds an associates degree in communication and a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Central Florida, with additional experience in project management and Procore. She is pursuing her CPA certification with plans to eventually open her own business supporting smaller subcontractors. Laureano attributes her professional success to patience, being quick to listen and slow to speak, and carefully gathering all details before solving problems. She has been recognized as most valuable player on a project and values mentoring younger professionals, especially women entering the field.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I would definitely say patience, and being very quick to listen and slow to speak. I think as a natural-born leader, and as a woman, you know, we sometimes are very quick to want to solve the problem. And aid and put the band-aids on it real quick to stop the bleeding, but what I've learned in my profession is you have to gather all of the details, and it's in the small details that will make you be successful.
