Her Interview

Ten minutes with Hazel

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from disciplined process thinking, continuous learning, and a focus on solving real operational problems. With a background in IE and Six Sigma Black Belt methodology, I specialize in identifying inefficiencies and designing practical, scalable solutions. I stay adaptable as technology and AI evolve, translating complex systems into simple, usable workflows. My experience in both corporate and nonprofit settings has strengthened a service driven mindset focused on creating solutions that are both effective and impactful.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of my key career lessons is the importance of “learning how to learn.” Rather than focusing on specific tools, I prioritize the ability to quickly adapt, absorb, and apply new knowledge, an essential skill in fast changing industries. This mindset has kept me adaptable across roles and technologies and shapes my approach to problem solving through curiosity, structured thinking, and simplifying complex systems into practical solutions.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I advice young women in IE, BPA, and AI to focus on strong fundamentals and not be intimidated by complexity. I like to emphasizes systems thinking, structured problem solving, and learning how to learn, especially in fast evolving fields like AI and automation. I also encourages them to speak up early, take space in technical conversations, and trust their perspective, as growth often comes from engaging, asking questions, and contributing ideas while still learning.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

A key challenge is that many organizations still rely on fragmented systems and legacy infrastructure, limiting true end to end automation. Disconnected data, inconsistent processes, and integration issues remain major barriers despite advances in AI and automation. Change management is another hurdle, as successful adoption depends on trust, workflow redesign, and team alignment around new ways of working. At the same time, there is a major opportunity as industries shift toward connected, intelligent systems powered by AI and real time data. For IE and BPA professionals, this creates a critical moment to bridge systems, simplify complexity, and drive meaningful operational transformation.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I am passionate about helping individuals and organizations navigate the rapid evolution of AI and automation, translating complex insights into practical guidance that builds confidence during change. As a Hispanic professional who faced early career barriers in networking and access to resources, I am committed to creating opportunities for others through mentorship, connections, and professional development support. I focus on helping underserved and emerging talent access networks, certifications, scholarships, and skills needed for long term growth, with the goal of promoting independence and expanding opportunity.
