About Heather
Heather Achey has built a diverse career that combines manufacturing leadership with artistic creativity and a passion for lifelong learning. She currently serves as a Material Processor Requirements Facilitator (MPRF) at Boeing in Everett, Washington, where she has worked since 2008. Beginning her career with the company during the economic recession, she advanced from a janitorial role into warehousing and logistics, eventually taking on partial team lead responsibilities that include coordinating crews, supporting workflow, and mentoring team members. Alongside her aerospace career, Achey has cultivated an extensive background in graphic design, sculpture, illustration, and animation, reflecting her lifelong commitment to both technical excellence and creative expression.
Achey earned an Associate of Science degree in Art from the Seattle Art Institute and has continued expanding her expertise through specialized education, including a certificate in Animal Behavior from the University of Washington and advanced animation studies at Don Bluth University. A published children's book author and illustrator, she wrote and illustrated Garcia the Great White Shark and continues to produce original artwork, webcomics, animations, and merchandise through her independent creative projects. Her professional experience also includes graphic design, sculpting public art, sign fabrication, wildlife rehabilitation volunteering, and exploring the responsible use of artificial intelligence as a tool to enhance—not replace—creative work.
Committed to personal growth and balance, Achey attributes her success to the unwavering support and guidance of her parents, friends, and family. She believes persistence is the foundation of long-term achievement and encourages others to stay the course and never give up on their goals. She is also a strong advocate for women pursuing careers in manufacturing and other traditionally male-dominated industries, encouraging them to be confident, embrace new opportunities, and recognize the many career paths available. Above all, Achey values maintaining a healthy work-life balance, believing that professional success is most meaningful when paired with personal fulfillment and continued creative exploration.

Ten minutes with Heather
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement of my parents, friends, and family. They have been my foundation through every stage of my personal and professional journey, inspiring me to persevere, continue growing, and pursue every opportunity with confidence. Their belief in me has played an invaluable role in shaping the person and professional I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to stick with it and never give up. I've learned that persistence is one of the most important ingredients for long-term success, especially when facing challenges or setbacks. Staying committed to your goals and continuing to move forward, even when the path is difficult, is what ultimately leads to growth and achievement.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: don't be intimidated by manufacturing or any traditionally male-dominated field. These careers are just as open to women, and your skills, ideas, and perspective are valuable. Be confident, embrace new opportunities, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone—some of the most rewarding careers begin with the courage to take that first step.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities in my field is the ability to grow across a wide range of programs and career paths within aerospace manufacturing. It's an industry that offers continuous learning and the chance to make a meaningful impact in many different areas. One of the biggest challenges is the physical nature of manufacturing work, which makes it especially important for employees to prioritize their health, stay active, and maintain their physical well-being throughout their careers.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value maintaining a healthy work-life balance in both my professional and personal life. I believe it's important to achieve success in my career while also making time for my well-being, family, and the things that bring fulfillment outside of work. Striking that balance allows me to be more effective, focused, and present in every aspect of my life.
