About Heather
Heather Alfis is an entrepreneur and business owner currently serving as the proprietor of Blooming Grove Farm and Country Store in Hawley, Pennsylvania. She began her career in retail to accommodate her schedule as a young mother before transitioning to agriculture after her children grew older. With 15 years in the field, she directs all daily operations and long-term business scaling strategies, authors foundational startup documentation including business plans, operational protocols, and financial frameworks, and orchestrates on-site construction and land development on her family property to meet safety and industry standards. Her expertise centers on raising livestock, animal husbandry, self-sustainability, teaching others through education, and conservation. She is pursuing a Business Administration degree at Lackawanna College to strengthen her business credentials, having self-taught much of her agricultural knowledge. Alfis is a member of USDA Farmers and plans to collaborate with the local non-profit The Grove. Her career reflects a strong commitment to entrepreneurship, strategic growth, and building a sustainable agricultural business rooted in her community and family values, including perseverance and creating generational roots.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My family. I want to make this something that lasts generationally. To have roots and own what has been owned in my family for generations and pass that on to my kids.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Accessing funds and grants is the hardest part of startup. They are available but harder to access than they seem, requiring jumping through hoops.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Perseverance is the biggest one. Not giving up no matter what happens, keep taking steps forward to reach your goal eventually.
