Her Story
About Heather
Heather Burns serves as a fractional COO in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With 12 years of experience owning her own businesses and roughly two years focused on the fractional COO niche for other companies, she assists business owners in establishing scalable operations. Burns began her entrepreneurial path in real estate, where she reached the top 15 percent in her first full year. She then co-founded a welding company with her ex-husband that grew over seven years before she exited amid a divorce. Subsequent ventures included developing the first high-protein edible for the cannabis industry and launching a luxury magazine in publication and international wellness. Today she acts as a problem solver who helps clients flip the script on the belief that business must involve constant struggle, returning time and money to owners while teaching them to read profit margins and view their operations holistically. Burns attributes her success to an ongoing desire to discover what else she can achieve, a contrast to her parents' 9-to-5 careers, and a commitment to experiencing as much as possible in one life while inspiring others to do the same.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Heather
01What do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, it's just that I keep wanting to show myself what else I can do. I was raised with parents who are 9-to-5 employees, but I only have one life and I want to experience as much as I can. That's probably why I get into different industries, to grow and expand myself. It also goes to showing other people that you can do it too.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Stop limiting yourself because others limit themselves.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It goes back to fail-forward. The word of failing scares us, but failure is the ultimate success because every time you fail, I just call it collecting data. You learn what you should not be doing. Keep chasing your no, because the more no's you get, the closer to the yes you are. Don't be afraid to fail.
