Her Interview
Ten minutes with Heather
01What do you attribute your success to?
A lot of grit and not being afraid to let my alpha personality shine. Being lifted up by my male peers and having amazing champions throughout my career who have helped open doors.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't ever bake the cake. It means don't get distracted by stereotypical female roles like bringing birthday cake or organizing meetings; stay strategic as a subject matter expert.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Surround yourself with as many brilliant people as possible. Make a name for yourself by speaking up even if opposite of what's being said. Build your network because it saves you at every turn and helps bypass HR while building knowledge and relationships.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Being the only woman in the room has been a pretty good challenge. Recently attended an all-women conference which was an eye-opener.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity above all. Do what you say, say what you're gonna do, and do it to the best of your abilities. Also leadership values like loyalty, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage from military background.
