About Heather
Heather Funk is an esthetician and entrepreneur who has spent 25 years in the skincare beauty industry. She founded her company in 2010 and launched her own line of professional-grade regenerative skincare products in 2024 under the brand Skinsculpt, which overlays her original site heathernicoleSkincare.com. Funk holds an esthetician license and certifications from approximately 10 or 12 different product lines. She built her business single-handedly through client referrals without marketing, often working 10-hour days from 2008 onward, and has pivoted successfully through challenges such as the 2008 recession and COVID by adapting her services and recently hiring a marketing team. Funk emphasizes integrity in her work, prioritizing the health of clients, the planet, and Mother Earth over profits, and she is currently working with a hands-on trade association. Her philanthropic interests include past support for No Kid Hungry and ongoing exploration of initiatives aligned with skin regeneration, such as support for burn victims. She attributes her success to hard work, perseverance, and never giving up, and she advises aspiring professionals to define how they want to help others, stay true to their vision, conduct their own research, and master their craft.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Heather
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, perseverance, and never giving up. I single-handedly built this company through referrals without any marketing, staying booked with 10-hour days from 2008 until recently, and learning to pivot through challenges like COVID.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is to just keep going, because where there's a will, there's a way. Have faith through pivots and hardships, develop thick skin and a positive outlook, and learn how to pivot like many did in COVID.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Define how you want to help people and what you believe in. Stay true to yourself, do your own research, hold your vision, study your craft, and become very good at what you do despite the noise from big brands at trade shows.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Opportunities include helping others, educating young people on diet and skin, and providing oncology skincare for cancer patients. Challenges involve competing with big conglomerates focused on profits over planet and safety, as seen with lawsuits against major brands, while trying to get my brand noticed with limited marketing dollars.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is most important. In the skincare space full of noise and marketing, it's crucial to care about what's in the bottle, the planet, and Mother Earth, rather than just profits.
