Her Story

About Heather

Heather Walker is the owner and operator of Brite Smiles, a private teeth whitening studio based in Denton, Texas. A registered dental assistant with more than 30 years of experience in the dental industry, she has worked across cosmetic dentistry, general dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery before launching her own business four and a half years ago. Drawing on her extensive clinical background, she created Brite Smiles to offer professional in-office teeth whitening in a comfortable, non-traditional setting that feels welcoming and accessible to clients. Through Brite Smiles, Walker provides affordable professional whitening services at $225, with flexible payment options designed to make treatment accessible to a wider range of clients. She is known for her patient-centered approach, taking time to answer questions thoroughly, avoiding rushed appointments, and ensuring each client feels informed and cared for. Her attention to detail extends beyond the chair—she follows up personally with clients and often sends handwritten thank-you notes, fostering long-term relationships and a strong sense of community around her business. In addition to her entrepreneurial work, Walker is deeply involved in her community. She serves as board chair for SPAN Meals on Wheels and volunteers with multiple nonprofit organizations. Her leadership and impact were recognized when she was named Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year by her local chamber. Guided by values of honesty, integrity, and authenticity, she is also passionate about mentoring young women entering the industry, encouraging them to embrace their individuality, trust their abilities, and overcome imposter syndrome.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Heather

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my technical knowledge and over 30 years of experience in the dental industry. I also believe it comes from the way I treat people—taking the time to answer questions thoroughly, never rushing clients, and creating a comfortable, welcoming experience. I make a point to add personal touches, such as handwritten thank-you notes and thoughtful follow-ups, so each client feels valued and part of the Brite Smiles family.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to be my authentic self, believe in my abilities, and not allow imposter syndrome to hold me back. That advice has guided me throughout my career and continues to shape how I show up in my business and in my community.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would give the same advice: be authentic, embrace what makes you different, and stay genuine in your work. Confidence grows when you trust your skills and remain true to your values, even when you feel uncertain.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is encouraging clients to invest in discretionary services like cosmetic teeth whitening during a time when many are facing financial pressures and higher living costs. At the same time, there is a strong opportunity in maintaining accessible pricing while still delivering high-quality services, which allows me to reach a broader range of clients.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty, integrity, and authenticity are the values that guide everything I do, both professionally and personally. They shape how I treat my clients, how I run my business, and how I show up in my community.
