Her Story

About Heather

Heather Wilborn is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SwiftAuth Medical, an AI-powered prior authorization platform designed to streamline healthcare workflows and reduce administrative burden for providers. She leads the company with a focus on improving efficiency in insurance authorization, benefit verification, and revenue cycle processes, helping healthcare organizations accelerate patient access to care and strengthen operational performance.

Her career began in social work before transitioning into healthcare operations, where she advanced into pre-certification at Piedmont Hospital. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she observed significant inefficiencies and breakdowns within healthcare administrative systems, which inspired her to build a more effective solution. Drawing on her experience in prior authorization, medical billing, and coding, she founded her own authorization and billing company to address these challenges directly.

In response to the growing need for automation, Heather developed the Swift Auth Voice platform, independently learning Python in a short period to build a tool that automates prior authorization workflows for physicians and staff. Her work reflects a blend of clinical understanding, technical innovation, and operational leadership, with a continued focus on modernizing healthcare processes through practical, technology-driven solutions.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Heather

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance and a commitment to never giving up, regardless of the challenges I face. I approach both life and my career as a continuous climb, where each obstacle is an opportunity to grow stronger and more resilient. Even in moments of difficulty, when the work feels demanding or progress seems slow, I stay focused on the goal ahead. Like climbing a mountain, I remain driven by the vision of reaching the summit and gaining a broader perspective, which motivates me to keep pushing forward with determination and purpose.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to give myself more credit and recognize my own value. I’ve learned that I deserve a seat at the table just as much as anyone else, and that my voice, experience, and perspective are important. This mindset has helped me step into opportunities with greater confidence, advocate for myself, and fully embrace the contributions I bring to every role and responsibility I take on.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to actively connect with other women and build a strong network of support, mentorship, and collaboration. Surrounding yourself with others who understand your journey can provide both encouragement and perspective as you grow in your career. It’s also important to remain resilient never give up when faced with setbacks or challenges. One closed door does not define your path; in fact, it often leads to new and better opportunities. Stay persistent, stay open, and trust that the right opportunities will continue to present themselves.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in this field is the increasing level of competition, particularly from hospital-based systems, along with the need to effectively market and differentiate services in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. Navigating payer requirements and maintaining visibility in a complex and crowded space requires consistent strategy and adaptability. At the same time, the greatest opportunity lies in growth, as insurance payers continue to expand prior authorization requirements and healthcare systems face increasing administrative complexity. This creates a strong demand for more efficient, technology-driven solutions that improve workflows, reduce delays, and support better patient access to care.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are honesty, balance, and a commitment to enjoying life beyond work. I believe integrity and transparency are essential in building trust and meaningful professional relationships. Just as importantly, I value maintaining a healthy work-life balance and ensuring that life is not solely focused on work and constant striving. Spending time with family, prioritizing well-being, and making space for joy are all key principles that guide how I lead, make decisions, and live each day.
