About Heather
Heather Womble is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of StrataRun, where she is pioneering a new approach to legal-state governance and land information management for the energy industry. With more than 33 years of experience in oil and gas, including over 20 years developing software solutions, she has built her career around helping organizations make confident, evidence-based decisions regarding land ownership, rights, obligations, and asset management. As the inventor of U.S. Patent No. 9,466,140, Heather developed innovative technologies that laid the foundation for today's governed, tract-level operating architecture and the concept of the Computable Tract.
Largely self-taught in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Heather combined her technical expertise with decades of practical land knowledge to create scalable software that improves how companies manage land records, title analysis, and legal-state governance. Throughout her career, she has led enterprise GIS initiatives, developed land data platforms supporting major energy projects, and created workflow solutions that significantly reduced research time, operational costs, and redundant effort. Her work continues to advance the integration of legal, land, GIS, accounting, and operational data into a unified, decision-ready platform.
Heather's leadership philosophy is rooted in honesty, transparency, and continuous innovation. Inspired early in life by her grandfather's advice to never say "can't," she has built a career around challenging conventional thinking and finding better solutions to complex industry problems. Today, she remains focused on helping energy companies transform historical land records into governed, time-aware systems that improve operational efficiency, reduce risk, and provide a defensible foundation for strategic decision-making.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Heather
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to honesty and transparency. Those values are at the center of both my professional and personal life, guiding how I communicate, build relationships, and conduct business. I believe trust is earned through openness, integrity, and consistently doing what I say I will do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the most meaningful pieces of advice I ever received came from my grandfather: "Don't say the word 'can't.'" He taught me that just because something hasn't been done before doesn't mean it can't be accomplished. I've carried that mindset throughout my career, believing there is always a solution if I'm willing to think differently, challenge assumptions, and remain persistent.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to be exceptionally prepared and truly know their business. Early in my career, I learned that earning a seat at the table is only the first step. Once you're there, you need to be knowledgeable, confident, and thoroughly prepared so your expertise speaks for itself. Preparation builds credibility, and credibility earns respect.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I believe one of the greatest opportunities is transforming how organizations manage land information by eliminating the need to repeatedly reconstruct or research information that already exists. The challenge is encouraging people to think beyond traditional approaches and embrace new ways of solving longstanding problems. Innovation requires organizations to adopt new workflows, challenge conventional thinking, and leverage technology to create more efficient, reliable, and defensible systems.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and transparency are the values that matter most to me. They influence every decision I make, every relationship I build, and every business interaction I have. I believe operating with integrity creates trust, strengthens collaboration, and leads to better long-term outcomes.
