Her Story

About Heena

I have over 20 years in tech recruiting, currently serving as the one-point contact for all strategic and practical recruiting matters. My day involves influencing stakeholders on hiring, headcount planning, skill mapping, conducting active searches on LinkedIn, engaging with talent, coaching candidates, and setting up interviews. I handle full life cycle recruiting including candidate experience, back-end operations, strategic hiring roadmap, and especially negotiating and closing candidates. My main areas of expertise are candidate experience and client management, where I influence, coach, and mentor effectively.

Ten minutes with Heena

01What do you attribute your success to?

I genuinely do care. I am a kind person which means that I will go the extra mile to do right things for you. I will tell you if something is not going to go right so that you can walk away with a little disappointed but still in the long run get a better value for your skills. Everybody who deals with me knows that I steer them right. That goodwill is what I am very proud of in my life.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

There are no shortcuts to the people business. If you're engaging with someone, you need to build trust. A lot of reading especially if they are interested in technology because if you're not curious you're always going to be behind of the curveball because technology is changing so fast. Be ready to understand what the engineers are building and go a little deeper. It is a very very exciting space.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There's a lot of opportunities but also a lot of recruiters who are not taking the time or effort to understand what the clients need. They're just casting a wide net. This is causing a rift in the market by mapping people to wrong jobs and ghosting candidates without feedback, giving the industry a bad name. On the opportunity side, we are at the brink of another dot com with AI bringing new opportunities, startups, and San Francisco is buzzing with venture capitalists. The next 10 years is going to be crazy as we interact with machines that behave like humans.
