Her Interview
Ten minutes with Heidi
01What do you attribute your success to?
I'd attribute my success to a combination of hard work and creating my own opportunities, rather than waiting for them to come to me. Throughout my career, I've made a point of seeking out new challenges and pushing myself into spaces where I could grow. Staying positive has been just as essential. There have been plenty of setbacks along the way, but keeping a positive outlook has helped me push through them, one step at a time. On a personal level, I'm always mindful that I'm setting an example for my three kids. I want them to see what it looks like to work hard, stay resilient, and build a life you're proud of, and honestly, that motivates me as much as anything else.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to never stop learning. Investing in continuing education has made a real difference for me, and staying proactive about pursuing new skills and challenges has opened doors I never could have imagined. I've also learned how empowering it is to be my own advocate. Speaking up for yourself and your career is one of the best things you can do for your own growth. And I truly believe success means so much more when you help lift others up along the way. Some of the most rewarding parts of my career have come from watching other women grow and thrive in their own paths, and I hope to keep doing that for a long time to come.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to women entering this industry is to find your specialty and commit to it wholeheartedly. Recruitment marketing is a niche field, and building deep expertise in it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made in my career.
I'd also encourage women to pursue credentials and continuing education that help them stand out. Investing in that knowledge shows employers you're serious, and it gives you real confidence and a genuine edge.
And finally, find a good mentor or internship right out of school if you can. Having someone in your corner to help guide you onto the right path early on makes a tremendous difference, and it's a gift that can shape your whole career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in this field right now is a lack of opportunities. Recruitment marketing teams simply aren't at every company yet. The field is growing, but you often have to look hard to find open roles, and when you do apply, there's quite a bit of competition. My best advice is to stay connected to the recruitment marketing community by attending conferences and educational opportunities specialized to our field, and to showcase your work whenever possible. Building visibility and staying engaged with others in the industry can make all the difference when opportunities do come along.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
One of the values that matters most to me, both in my work and personal life, is helping other women achieve greatness. I truly believe that when you lift other women up, everyone goes further. There's a kind of ripple effect that happens when you invest in someone else's growth. It doesn't just benefit them, it benefits the entire industry and community around you. I also believe strongly in karma. What you put out into the world has a way of coming back to you, so I try to approach my career and relationships with generosity rather than competition. Whether that means mentoring someone earlier in their career, sharing knowledge I've picked up along the way, or simply advocating for a colleague when they're not in the room, I feel a responsibility to help other women get ahead in business. Success means a lot more to me when it's shared.
