Her Story
About Heidy
I've been in my field for over 10 years, starting in finance where I worked in institutional asset management for about 5 years. During that time, I did analysis and attribution for our funds, analyzed financial markets including U.S. and global equities and derivatives, built predictive models, and managed consultant relationships. I then pivoted into the nonprofit world, starting with membership development and fundraising, doing marketing and increasing membership and attendance. I moved into the foundation space and philanthropy, where I started managing grants and doing grantmaking. I became a panelist for the Peak Grantmakers Conference and partnered with our COO to create a presentation for that association. I managed databases, did grant-making portfolio assessments, financial due diligence and risk analysis for reports, and reviewed grant proposals. For the last 3 years, I've been the grants program lead for clean energy grants, where I helped develop the organization's grant-making strategy with about a 7-year forward look. The goal of the program is to maximize impact by creating strategic priorities for our grant making and aligning those with the organization's mission and goals. I've done a lot of data analytics and supported the development of our grants database system. I developed the grant-making process for multi-year grants, writing RFPs, hosting workshops and Q&As, managing team evaluations, conducting interviews, risk assessments, and financial reviews. I draft grant agreements and manage overall project progress, milestones and deliverables. The program has a budget of $7 million for clean energy projects, and I've been able to issue about $2.5 million so far.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I think my greatest accomplishments have been driving growth for the organizations I've worked with. At Wells Fargo, I was on the business development consultant relationships team, and we increased our assets from $10 billion to close to $17 billion during the time that I was there. In my membership development director role for the nonprofit, I helped fundraise a million dollars and grew the membership by 47%. Currently in my role, I'm overseeing the $7 million portfolio and was able to issue about $2.5 million. So really just increasing participation, customer participation and engagement, being able to manage just a diverse group of relationships, from consultants to donors to the on-the-ground customers. I think the growth in the organization, the relationship building and relationship management, as well as strategic partnership management and data analytics are what have driven my success.
