Her Interview
Ten minutes with Helen
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to the strong foundation of work ethic instilled in me by my mother, who modeled discipline, perseverance, and integrity throughout my upbringing. Equally important has been the unwavering support of my husband throughout our 27 years of marriage. His encouragement, understanding, and partnership have been instrumental in every stage of my journey, standing by me through key decisions involving our family, children, and career. His steadfast support has allowed me to pursue professional growth with confidence while maintaining balance and commitment to what matters most.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received was to consistently step outside of my comfort zone. A former manager once told me that no matter how comfortable you think you are, there is always another level of growth that comes from pushing beyond it. That perspective encouraged me to take on challenges I might have otherwise avoided and to view discomfort as a necessary part of professional development. It has stayed with me throughout my career as a reminder that real growth and long-term success come from continuously stretching beyond what feels familiar.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering the healthcare industry to remain resilient, adaptable, and confident in their ability to grow through challenges. I often share with my daughter, who works in a chiropractic office, the importance of striving forward and never giving up on yourself, even when situations become difficult or frustrating. Healthcare is an ever-evolving field, but it will always remain essential because people will continue to need care, support, and advocacy. While the industry continues to advance with new technologies and processes, the human element remains irreplaceable. The ability to connect with patients through empathy, understanding, and compassion is something that cannot be replicated by technology and is at the core of meaningful care.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the healthcare and patient support space today is the rapid integration of artificial intelligence into systems and communication channels. While AI offers clear benefits in improving efficiency, streamlining operations, and enhancing access to information, it also raises concerns about preserving the human connection that is essential in patient care. This is especially important when supporting individuals and families facing serious conditions such as cancer, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and other life-altering diagnoses, where empathy, tone, and understanding are critical to the patient experience. The key opportunity lies in thoughtfully balancing technology with compassionate, patient-centered care leveraging innovation to improve processes while ensuring that the human element remains at the core of every interaction.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, integrity, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance are the most important values to me in both my professional and personal life. I believe honesty builds trust and transparency in every interaction, while integrity ensures consistency between what you say and what you do, even when no one is watching. Equally important is protecting work-life balance, which allows me to show up fully present and effective in both my career and personal responsibilities. These values guide my decisions, shape my relationships, and support long-term success and well-being.
