Her academic background in behavioral science further enhances her ability to translate complex restoration and insurance processes into clear, understandable guidance for homeowners, tenants, and subcontractors.
Within her first six months in the field, Helena successfully managed a large multifamily flood restoration project valued at over $250,000, demonstrating strong capability in large-loss coordination, scheduling, and project execution. She is proficient in Xactimate estimating support, moisture tracking, emergency response coordination, and reconstruction workflow management. Ten minutes with Helena
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a strong attention to detail and natural pattern recognition, which have enabled me to quickly understand complex processes and identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement. These strengths have accelerated my learning, strengthened my decision-making, and allowed me to consistently deliver high-quality results in fast-paced and evolving environments.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to be confident, even when I don’t know everything. Speaking with confidence and clarity builds trust, creates credibility, and opens the door to learning opportunities, even in unfamiliar situations. It’s a reminder that confidence is not about having all the answers, but about showing up prepared, willing to learn, and able to communicate effectively.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to keep your head held high and stay confident in your abilities, even in environments where you may be one of few women in the room. Seek out and build connections with other women in construction, as there is a strong and supportive community that can offer guidance, encouragement, and shared experience. Surrounding yourself with mentors and peers who understand the challenges of the industry can make a significant difference in both your growth and long-term success.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the field is that it remains male-dominated, which can sometimes create barriers to entry, visibility, and advancement for women. However, this also highlights a significant opportunity, as the industry is constantly growing and in need of skilled professionals across all areas. Construction offers a wide range of career paths including estimating, project management, and working with insurance partners in restoration and mitigation allowing for strong long-term growth, specialization, and career mobility.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity and honesty are the core values that guide both my professional and personal life. Leading with transparency and upfront communication helps build trust, even in difficult situations, and allows for clearer understanding and stronger working relationships. I believe that when people feel seen, heard, and respected, it creates a more collaborative and effective environment where better outcomes naturally follow.
