Her Story
About Hend
I started in jewelry retail five years ago with absolutely no knowledge of the industry, coming from clothing, shoes, and leather goods. I began as a sales associate at Jared in Fort Myers and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming AGM before being promoted to store manager at Zales in Houston, Texas. After returning to Florida, I was brought back to Jared as GM where I achieved million-dollar sales and built an entire new team from scratch. I take pride in mentoring my team and helping others reach their own million-dollar milestones.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Hend
01What do you attribute your success to?
I came from another country, the Middle East, Cairo, Egypt, and moved to the U.S. about 19 years ago. I had experience from luxurious brands back home but here nobody knew who I was. It was important for me to show that I could do it despite the different culture and background, starting from scratch in a new industry.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Jewelry is not for everybody. If you love jewelry, you'll be successful. It's not just a retail job where you collect a paycheck and go home. You become part of customers' big life events like proposals, anniversaries, and baby showers. Customer service is number one. You have to love what you're doing and love people and want to serve.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
It's all about we, not about me. As a GM, I make sure my team is comfortable and valued. If they have personal issues, I work with them. When you value your people, they give perfect performance and take care of business because they know you care about them.
