Her Interview
Ten minutes with Hetter
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success primarily to my faith in God, who has guided my path and provided opportunities I never could have anticipated. While my perseverance, determination, and strong work ethic have played an important role—especially in pushing forward when faced with challenges—I ultimately believe it is God who has sustained me and opened the doors that led me to where I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received has come through the example of the people closest to me. My mother, a single parent who faced significant adversity, showed me what true strength, resilience, and determination look like, and her example continues to guide how I approach challenges. I’ve also been fortunate to have a strong network of professional women in Arizona who offer encouragement, perspective, and support, creating a sense of community that has been invaluable throughout my career. Most importantly, my greatest inspiration comes from my children, whose resilience in the face of serious health challenges has taught me perseverance, gratitude, and strength in a way no professional advice ever could.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this field is to take it one day at a time and not be overwhelmed by the bigger picture. Focus on the impact you make each day, remembering that your work touches patients, families, and the wider community, and that you are a role model whether you realize it or not. There will be difficult moments, but maintaining a positive mindset, staying grounded in purpose, and allowing yourself time to reset each day will help you stay resilient and continue moving forward with strength and intention.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is keeping pace with the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, including changing regulations, advances in treatment, and the increasing complexity of patient care. As both a clinician and educator, it requires continuous learning and adaptability to ensure patients and students receive the highest level of care and support. At the same time, there are tremendous opportunities to make a lasting impact through both direct patient care and education—whether improving quality of life for patients or mentoring future nurse practitioners. I’m also encouraged by the growing leadership roles for nurses and advanced practice providers, which allow us to expand access to care, advocate more effectively for patients and families, and strengthen the future of healthcare through clinical excellence and education.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life center around family, growth, and meaningful connection. I deeply cherish time with my children and value the close bond we’ve built through shared moments, conversations, and support for one another. I also place great importance on personal growth and lifelong learning, which I pursue through experiences like travel, exploration, and cultural immersion. Whether in my career or personal life, I strive to stay curious, open-minded, and grounded in relationships that bring purpose, joy, and perspective.
