Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to following through on my commitments, staying passionate about what I do, and making sure I can always support myself. Early on, I worked with programs that helped underprivileged children get the school supplies they needed, and seeing those same students now thriving is incredibly rewarding. My students can’t all say they liked me, but none can say they didn’t learn from me, and that’s what truly matters to me making a real, lasting impact on their lives.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Now that I’m retired, I see the biggest challenges and opportunities in education as the ongoing evolution of teaching practices, student needs, and learning resources. Staying informed about these developments provides a valuable perspective on how the initiatives and programs I contributed to continue to shape and positively impact new generations of students.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are family, community, and education. I’m incredibly proud of my children and the role my family plays in keeping me grounded. I also value giving back to the community and staying engaged with the arts, particularly theater. Professionally, I’m passionate about the AVID style of teaching, which emphasizes student success, equity, and preparing every learner for the opportunities ahead.
