Her Interview

Ten minutes with Hiroko

01What do you attribute your success to?

Teaching young piano students is not just about teaching piano techniques. From frequent conversations with students to I learn their feelings and their lives' challenges at schools and social lives. My students sometimes tell me their hardships even about the things which they are hesitant to tell their own parents. I feel that I am an educator and a mentor besides being just a piano teacher which gives us deep mental connections. So even after they graduate we track each other and stay connected. It gives me a great pleasure to witness those young people blossoming in their field.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I have never received verbal advice from any body but learned a lot by just experiencing the way my wonderful teachers taught and lived.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The world is changing rapidly in every field, even education and performing life. Don't be scared of new way but embrace it. We have to keep learning and adjusting our way in professional lives. Be brave to test new way and find out what s coming.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Just like any other field, ever since the COVID pandemic period, things drastically changed. One on one method, face to face way of learning is starting to go away. Even old generation like me has to learn how to handle new way. This challenge may become opportunity if we learn and adjust to the new virtual way to stay with the flow.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Kindness, caring and, being thankful to others and situation I am in, is the most important thing for me in my work and my life.
