Her Story

About Holli

Holli Leslie is a music therapist based in Marion, Indiana. She works as an independent provider through Medicaid, offering music therapy services that emphasize healing through music and building community. Her practice also includes music lessons centered on self-expression and personal goals rather than rigorous training, as well as film scoring to bring emotional depth to meaningful stories and event performances. Leslie holds a background in music therapy, having discovered the field while in college after initially pursuing medicine; she attended IUPUI, which offered a music therapy program, and later transferred to another school that introduced the program the same year, allowing her to add relevant classes. She is a member of the American Music Therapy Association. Leslie values creating safe environments for exploration, as seen in her work helping clients develop motor skills through dancing and piano or naturally picking up melodies during improvisation. Her advice to others entering the field includes learning to delegate to avoid burnout and focusing on passionate pursuits for sustainability.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Holli

01What do you attribute your success to?

My passion, dedication, grit, drive, and joy. I am also intentional about finding quiet moments for myself so that I do not burn out.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Keep going and don't try to do everything. Learn how to delegate because if you try to do everything you're gonna burn out. Find the things that you're really passionate about and do those. Burnout culture is glamorized but it's not cute and it doesn't work in real life.
