Her Story
About Holly
Holly Johnson Stuhr is an accomplished international treasury and commercial banking professional with deep expertise in liquidity management, cash operations, and global payments strategy. She began her career through a commercial bank training program focused on credit analysis and underwriting, which provided a strong foundation in commercial lending and financial risk assessment. She later transitioned into cash management and earned professional certification through the Association for Financial Professionals, strengthening her expertise in treasury operations and enterprise liquidity solutions.
A defining achievement in her career was serving as Treasurer for a broadband cable company, where she built a fully functioning treasury department from the ground up in a greenfield environment. This included establishing policies, processes, and infrastructure for cash and risk management in a company that previously had no formal treasury function. Following this role, she took a purposeful career break to focus on raising her two children while living in Germany, gaining valuable international and life experience during that period.
Upon returning to the United States, Holly re-entered the workforce in 2014 through the reentry program at JPMorgan Chase & Co., relaunching her career in corporate banking and financial services. She has since held senior leadership roles across global institutions and currently serves as a strategic sales leader at Citi, where she partners with multinational clients to optimize liquidity structures and enhance treasury management processes. Her work focuses on delivering integrated global solutions that improve efficiency, strengthen financial controls, and support long-term growth for complex organizations.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Holly
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the people that I've worked with and my drive. I have a very strong drive to accomplish new things and learn new things, and I've always been fortunate that I've worked with really good people. My successes are not mine alone - there are people that support you through the process, and you always have to express gratitude and acknowledgement for those who help you along the way.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received is that your successes are not yours alone. There are people that support you through the process, and you always have to express gratitude and acknowledgement for those who help you achieve your goals.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never stop networking and meeting new people. Say hello to people in the elevator and find out what they do. Networking doesn't have to be a structured thing - it's sometimes just organic. I recently, for example, was walking to work and a woman had a Citibank backpack. I said, oh, I'm heading near the City too, and she's newer in this field, so I'm going to be connecting with her. Always be curious and always be open to meeting people and expanding your network.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges and opportunities in my field right now are really the same thing - the quantity of change is immense right now, with AI as well as the whole digital tokenization of payments. These technological shifts represent both significant challenges to adapt to and tremendous opportunities for those who can embrace them.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in my work and personal life are transparency, integrity, and in the role that I have, putting the client's needs first. These principles guide everything I do professionally and personally.
