Beyond her nonprofit work, Hope has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to community service through volunteer involvement with organizations such as the Sickle Cell Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Levine’s Hospital in Charlotte. Drawing on both her personal experiences and years of hands-on service, she is passionate about bringing awareness to issues affecting vulnerable populations and helping people access the support they need. Her Interview
Ten minutes with Hope Burton
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to nearly 30 years of advocacy and raising awareness, inspired by my daughter’s sickle cell diagnosis. That experience motivated me to support others and ultimately establish my nonprofit to serve young adults aging out of foster care, individuals experiencing homelessness, and caregivers.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to keep pushing and never give up—to bloom through challenges. Difficult experiences have helped me grow in knowledge, empathy, understanding, and accountability. I’ve learned to keep my head up, focus on what needs to be done, find solutions, and keep moving forward, even when circumstances are difficult.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to stay passionate about what you do and never stop learning. Continue growing your knowledge, embrace new opportunities, and remain committed to your goals.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been overcoming the lasting impact of surviving kidnapping and sexual assault, along with hearing loss in my right ear. These experiences have strengthened my resilience, deepened my empathy for others, and motivated me to turn difficult circumstances into opportunities to advocate for and support others.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are raising awareness and helping others. I believe in using my experiences to bring attention to issues that matter and making a positive difference in the lives of those who need support.
