Her Story
About Hope
I've been in the real estate investment industry for about 4 to 5 years now, and the journey has definitely had its twists and turns, but overall it's been nothing but growth. I started in property management, and as the company went in different directions, I moved from department to department. I never thought I was going to land this job because I thought it was just way too much for me, like I wasn't skilled enough and didn't know anything about it. It was so corporate, and I thought I could never do it. But my fiance told me to just go for it, just try it and see what happens. So I went for it, and I got it, and ever since, it's been an absolute blessing. What I do is mostly operations, and everything revolves around policies, procedures, workflows, and organization. I'm pretty much just making sure that the company and each department is operating efficiently, making sure everybody's held accountable and on track. The key thing is just to be as organized as possible. One of my most notable achievements was when I was doing more work for our loan servicing team. We were able to build out risk models and help with efficiencies. We built out entire workflows to really dig deep into what issues we were having, what hot-button items we could address and how to fix them, and eventually carry those out to have solutions and resolve all of the inefficiencies we were having.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Hope
01What do you attribute your success to?
God, 100%. God has been my provider since day one. Like I said, I didn't think I was gonna even get this job, or anything even close to this job, or even have this experience in life. I mean, everything that I have gone through, I give the glory to God, because without Him, I know I wouldn't be able to do anything that I do today, and get through it and have the strength. To have the strength, the durability, the consistency, the motivation, like, he just provides all of that for me, and he always provides a way, so I couldn't do it without him.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Honestly, I haven't really received much career advice. I was always told by my parents to go to college, get a good job, do your thing. But I would say that it's all about the team. Especially with the company that I work for, it's all about your attitude and your mindset, and how you treat others and how they treat you. I don't think that you can work at a job and be treated without respect. You need to have respect in that role, and if you don't feel respected, then it's not the role for you.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, never give up who you are for a position or a role. Always stay true to yourself, and always have that integrity. Never do something that you don't want to do. You just have to be authentic in who you are, and if they don't like it, then it's not meant to be, and you move on. But never do something, especially if you feel forced into doing it. Do what you think is right and what your spirit and your heart is telling you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
For me, I think the corporate environment can be a little scary, especially when there's a lot to look up to and compare yourself to. In the corporate environment, it can get a little bit clicky, where people are in certain cliques and groups. Also, there's just so many people that have so much experience, and it can kind of be overwhelming at first, and you kind of think to yourself, well, geez, like, do I know enough? Am I good enough for these people who are so much further along in life? But, honestly, you just have to kind of focus on yourself, focus on your work, and let all of that distraction and noise just kind of go silent in the background.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In both work and personal life, the most important value for me is having stewardship, being able to guide others in the way that Jesus loves us. Just being able to be that ball of energy, that positive attitude, that keep-going mentality, just being a steward for other people so that they can look at you and say, you know, well, she can do it, then I can do it, or if she can have a positive attitude about it, then I can have a positive attitude about it, and just being a good example for them, I guess.
