Hydia Green
Dr. Hydia Green is a senior law enforcement executive serving as Bureau Chief of Staff with the New Orleans Police Department, where she provides strategic leadership in recruitment and organizational development and is preparing for expanded responsibilities within the police academy. She brings a multidisciplinary background spanning banking, education, and law enforcement, and is recognized for her expertise in law enforcement leadership, recruitment strategy, transformative learning, and community policing. Her work focuses on strengthening workforce pipelines, enhancing training frameworks, and developing officers as ethical, community-centered leaders.
Dr. Green’s professional philosophy centers on integrating formative education with community policing, believing officers should serve as trusted guardians and problem-solvers within the communities they protect. She is deeply committed to lifelong learning, mentorship, service, and perseverance, and advocates for training models that emphasize empathy, leadership development, and community partnership. Her leadership approach is shaped by her belief that effective policing begins with education, character development, and sustained community engagement.
Her career began in the banking sector, where she earned an MBA and developed a strong foundation in organizational and financial management. She later transitioned into K–12 education, spending approximately 25 years in the field and advancing to principal before earning a doctorate in education. About seven years ago, Dr. Green entered law enforcement, where she progressed into management and academic leadership roles and now serves in executive leadership as Bureau Chief of Staff. She is actively involved in educational and service organizations, including Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Kappa Delta Pi, supporting mentorship, scholarship, and leadership development initiatives. Passionate about teaching and mentoring youth, Dr. Green continues to integrate education, leadership development, and service into every aspect of her professional and personal mission.

What do you attribute your success to?
Dr. Green attributes her success to a passion for learning, teaching, and service. She credits her curiosity, adaptability, and commitment to mentoring others, along with a values-driven approach to leadership, as key factors in her career growth.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from two influential figures in my life: my mother, whose love of learning was infectious, and a passionate geology professor who inspired me to explore ideas deeply. Their guidance reinforced my belief in the power of curiosity-driven learning and the importance of seeking out mentors who challenge and support you along your journey.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Follow your passion find work that brings you joy, and the other rewards will follow.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In law enforcement today, I see significant challenges around recruitment, maintaining public trust, and adapting to evolving societal expectations. At the same time, I believe there are tremendous opportunities to transform the field through innovative learning and community policing models that cultivate officers as leaders, problem-solvers, and trusted partners within the communities they serve.
