Her Story
About Ileen
Ileen Krow, based in Tallahassee, Florida, is the co-founder of Cypress and Sand Studios, a video production company she started with her boyfriend a couple of months ago. The studio focuses on user-generated content (UGC) for outdoor brands and Americana outdoor lifestyle brands, emphasizing an organic, handmade approach using their backyard and natural elements, with no involvement of AI. Prior to this, Ileen spent 24 years in hospitality, retail, sales, and restaurant work, including 18 years in hospitality and 6 years in sales. Motivated by a desire for independence after facing challenges with a previous employer, she and her partner drew on their combined experiences to launch the business. Ileen values the freedom to pursue projects on her own terms and plans to use the venture to demonstrate to their children the possibility of building a life independently. She draws inspiration from career advice shared by her aunt about pursuing what one loves without external direction and persisting through challenges. In addition to her professional pursuits, Ileen cares for her sister's children on weekends and intends to become involved in local food programs once the business is more established.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Ileen
01What do you attribute your success to?
My varied background, the desire to leave a legacy for my children, and sheer girt.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My aunt who left a toxic job said there is nothing better than getting out and doing the thing you love without anyone telling you how to do it. Don't stop, don't look at the frustrations, just keep going. It's not gonna fail if you just keep going. That's been my mantra.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Whatever feels exciting, explore it. Do you have a crazy cool idea? Pitch it.. Do it.
Don't be afraid to fail, Every no is closer to the best yes you've had, yet.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In any kind of advertising, you get to affect people. Someone who has the equipment to play outside in their favorite way, will do so.
I really enjoy the idea of getting kids outside, families playing outside together.
I think our biggest opportunity is bringing the feeling of outdoors to the phone screen, and encouraging people to get out there and live a real life.
Biggest challenge? Haven't found one.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family, playing outside, feeding as many people as possible with my garden, and having a real sense of adventure.
