01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to take time to understand themselves, their values, and what they truly want to pursue. Looking back, I wish I had explored my passion for psychology and counseling earlier instead of choosing what seemed like the safer path. While my background in accounting, business, and marketing has been valuable, I learned that there are many resources, mentors, and opportunities available to help people find their direction. You do not have to have everything figured out right away—seek guidance, stay open to learning, and trust yourself. The counseling field continues to grow with new research and approaches, creating more opportunities to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals, couples, and families.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest developments in my field has been the growing understanding of attachment, childhood experiences, and their impact on mental health. Research on attachment theory has shown that our early relationships with caregivers influence how we connect with others and view ourselves, but these patterns are not permanent and can change through healing and self-awareness. The study of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) has also highlighted how the way children are treated can affect their emotional, physical, and psychological development throughout life. Today, we have a greater understanding that children’s experiences matter and that compassion, connection, and healthy relationships play a vital role in shaping who we become.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in my work and personal life are family, relationships, spirituality, kindness, empathy, health, and personal growth. I recently explored my values through a values assessment exercise, which helped me reflect on how well I am living according to what truly matters to me and what areas I want to strengthen. It reminded me that our values guide the choices we make and shape the way we show up in the world. I believe it is important to regularly check in with ourselves, recognize what we value most, and make intentional choices that align with those values. For me, maintaining meaningful connections, caring for others, prioritizing health, and continuing to grow are essential parts of living a fulfilling life.
