Her Story

About Imani

I'm currently a basketball manager for the KSU men's basketball team and also work in guest services and security for the FIFA World Cup in Atlanta this summer. I started pursuing sports management because I love sports and was an athlete competing in track and field, and I managed football and basketball in high school. My day-to-day involves early mornings setting up equipment and film for practice, monitoring player performance, and taking notes alongside managers and coaches. My proudest moment was when our basketball team won conference finals last season after all the hard work and struggles throughout the season.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would definitely say don't get discouraged, because it's not easy to get these roles, especially as a woman in the sports world. But networking is your best friend, like, if you go get out there as much as possible, try to meet as many people in as many different positions as possible, and just be open-minded. Even if you start at a position that you don't want to be in, you can always climb as high as you can.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Staying unique. A lot of people try to go for the same product or try to do the same thing. If you're a woman in sports and you're doing content, it would kind of look the same as everybody else, so you won't really stand out. Find something that makes you different and emphasize that in your journey.
