Ten minutes with Imani

01What do you attribute your success to?

My family, especially my mom who supports me by driving me to campus. God and Jesus who helped me through tough times including losing my father. Myself for showing up every day and putting in the work.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't take everything personally. Understand the concepts of accounting rather than just memorizing. Come in with an open mind, ask questions, join clubs for social skills and connections.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Always come in with an open mind, be optimistic, ask questions. Pay attention in class, read, join clubs to build social skills and connections with other young accounting professionals.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges: AI evolving and potentially taking away knowledge. Being an African American woman facing racism in internships. Opportunities: Everyone needs an accountant, room for growth beyond big four firms, many certificates available.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Positive energy, being kind to yourself, dedication, growth, gratitude, professionalism, and taking time for yourself during down moments.
