Her Story
About Ireland
I work on the benefits side at Arthur J. Gallagher, specifically focusing on health and wellness, where I partner with companies to strategize on their employee benefits and help them plan annually to maintain the most competitive packages in their industries. I’ve been with Gallagher for nearly three years, starting as an intern and progressing into my current role. During this time, I’ve had the opportunity to work with organizations ranging from 20 employees to thousands, tailoring solutions to meet their unique needs.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been running our internship program, allowing me to give back to an initiative that played a pivotal role in launching my own career. I primarily collaborate with HR leaders, guiding them through complex benefits challenges. Recently, I’ve been assisting organizations in understanding and preparing for Minnesota Paid Family Medical Leave, which came into effect this year.
My connection to this industry runs deep. My father works in the insurance industry at Voya Financial, and growing up, I attended father-daughter workdays, which gave me an early appreciation for the camaraderie and sense of community this profession fosters.

Ten minutes with Ireland
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to the guidance and support of my dad and the incredible mentors I’ve had along the way. My dad, who’s been in this industry for years, taught me the importance of hard work, building strong relationships, and advocating for myself. He’s been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement. I’ve also been fortunate to have mentors who’ve shared their knowledge, pushed me to grow, and helped me navigate challenges. Their influence has shaped my career and given me the confidence to succeed in this industry.
Watching them navigate their careers and seeing the respect they earned from their peers inspired me to do the same. My mentors are people who not only excelled in their careers but also supported and uplifted those around them. Many of them, especially the women I met, have risen to the very top of the industry, and their journeys have shown me the power of perseverance and self-advocacy.
The connections I’ve made in this industry have been invaluable. It’s a community where everyone knows everyone, and those relationships have helped me grow both personally and professionally. Advocating for myself, learning from others, and building genuine connections have been key to my success so far.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to always stay curious and never stop learning. This advice has stuck with me because it reminds me that growth comes from being open to new ideas, seeking out challenges, and continuously improving. In an industry as dynamic as this one, staying adaptable and willing to learn has been key to building meaningful relationships and delivering value to clients.
Another piece of advice that resonates with me is to focus on building genuine connections. Success isn’t just about what you know but also about how you collaborate and support others. This has shaped how I approach my career—prioritizing relationships, fostering trust, and creating a positive impact wherever I can.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I always advise people to advocate for themselves, take risks, and embrace opportunities to learn and grow. No matter the industry—whether it’s insurance, marketing, or something else—success comes from asking questions, trying new approaches, and stepping outside your comfort zone. Taking initiative and being bold are key to making an impact.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Some of the biggest challenges I see include managing rising healthcare costs, navigating complex regulations, and creating benefits packages that meet the needs of diverse workforces. A big part of my role is educating clients on their options, helping them balance cost with value, and staying ahead of trends like telemedicine and mental health resources. It’s a competitive space, so it’s important to consistently deliver creative solutions, strategic advice, and great service to keep clients happy and stay ahead in the industry.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are integrity, collaboration, and growth. I believe in doing what’s right, building strong relationships based on trust, and always seeking opportunities to learn and improve. These values guide how I approach my work, relationships, and life.
