Her Story

About Irina

Irina Gubenko, LMFT, EFT, MS Ed., is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Spiritual Teacher, and Transformational Coach with more than 25 years of experience in education, social-emotional counseling, and personal transformation. A first-generation immigrant from Ukraine, Irina moved to New York City at age 15 without speaking English and went on to build a career as an elementary school teacher, Literacy Coach, and Instructional Coordinator. Her personal journey of perseverance and healing ultimately led her to earn a second master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at age 50 and pursue her calling of supporting women and couples.

Today, Irina combines clinical expertise with spiritual and embodied practices, including Emotionally Focused Therapy, mindfulness, yoga, aromatherapy, and Taoist and tantric healing arts. Through her practice, Holistic Mind-Heart Therapy NYC, and her transformational programs and women’s community initiatives, she helps clients strengthen self-worth, emotional connection, communication, intimacy, confidence, and purpose. She is the founder of La Femme Rose Women Community and recently launched Return to Self, a 12-month transformational journey designed to help women reconnect with their authentic selves, intuition, emotions, bodies, and inner power.

Irina’s work is grounded in the belief that healing is both personal and communal, and that people thrive when they have a supportive community around them. She has facilitated women’s circles and retreats, including initiatives created during the COVID-19 pandemic to address isolation and mental health challenges. Her work has been featured by Good News Planet and Marie Claire, and she has spoken at a Harvard University symposium on holistic arts. In 2025, she received an award from UN Ambassador Hugus Sanon at the International Day of Peace Gala honoring leaders advancing peace, justice, and humanitarian excellence. Looking ahead, Irina aims to expand her work internationally, reach more women around the world, and continue building communities centered on healing, authenticity, connection, and empowerment.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Irina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, discipline, determination, and believing in myself, even when faced with setbacks or uncertainty. As an immigrant who arrived in the United States at 15 without speaking English, I learned early that challenges do not have to define my future. My journey has taught me to trust my inner calling, take responsibility for my own growth and healing, and continue moving forward even when the path is difficult.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to believe in myself and not allow other people’s opinions or doubts to determine my path. I have learned that success requires perseverance, discipline, and the courage to follow what truly feels meaningful. When I trust my own experience, stay committed to my purpose, and keep moving forward through setbacks, I create opportunities for growth and lasting impact.
