Her Story
About Iris
I work as an electrical engineer, focusing on hardware and circuit design. My daily responsibilities involve creating wiring diagrams and circuit design work. I've been in this field for about one year while pursuing my Bachelor's of Science degree at NYU, where I expect to graduate in 2028. One of my proudest professional achievements has been participating in my school's RoboMaster project, where my team is preparing for a competition in the coming months. I'm actively involved in professional organizations that support women in technology, including Girls Who Code, Stemist, and IEEE. Beyond my technical work, I'm passionate about volunteering, particularly with food banks where I help coordinate and pack food for those in need.

Ten minutes with Iris
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my personal goals and strong motivation, which comes from my family. My mom worked very hard, and I've always been inspired by her example. Watching her dedication has driven me to work hard and pursue my own achievements. That family support and the inspiration I draw from my mother's work ethic are what keep me motivated and pushing forward in my career.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to not be afraid to talk to people who are already in the industry. Networking is so important. Don't hesitate to reach out and connect with professionals who are already established in your field. Building those relationships and learning from people with experience can open so many doors and help you grow in your career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to be encouraging to yourself and don't be afraid to try new things. Always believe in yourself. It's so important to have that self-confidence and be willing to step outside your comfort zone. Don't let fear hold you back from exploring new opportunities or taking on challenges. Trust in your abilities and keep pushing forward.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in the tech field is that there are definitely a lot more guys there. At first, some guys would kind of feel that girls won't be able to achieve in this field, like we don't have as much power or aren't seen as capable in certain events or situations. There are definitely challenges with that gender imbalance and those perceptions. But I believe we can always find an organization or a professor or professional who will give us support. There are people and resources out there to help us succeed. On the opportunity side, I think participating in student organizations always gives you a lot more opportunities to grow and connect.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are being kind and trying my best to help others. Family is really important to me as well. I value being that person who can support others and be there for people when they need help. Being supportive, showing kindness, and maintaining strong family connections are the core values that guide both my work and personal life.
