Her Story

About Irma

Irma Wilson serves as an educator, life coach, and author in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania. Her professional journey began after immigrating from Haiti, where she pursued hospitality management with an internship at Disney World before advancing to roles including front desk department head and housekeeping. Seeking better work-life balance for her family, she earned a degree in healthcare administration and worked in that field for 10 to 12 years. She later obtained a master's in management and a master's in leadership with a minor in project management. Wilson now channels her expertise in teaching and motivating people into her role as an educator, offering coaching sessions on leadership and communities through her YouTube show The Unsung Shiva and her book The 7 S's That Birth Your Dreams. She attributes her success to a drive not to let down those who believed in her, providing for her family as a blueprint for her daughter, and now instilling values of womanhood and self-respect in her students. Wilson emphasizes integrity and transparency in her work and serves as a board member for SEHA, a Haitian humanitarian organization, and as a founding member of the Dr. Joanne Lewis Foundation, where she coordinates events and health fairs.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Irma

01What do you attribute your success to?

My motivation started with not wanting to let people down who believed in me, then shifted to providing for my family and being a blueprint for my daughter. Now I pour that into my students, teaching young ladies about womanhood and carrying themselves with self-respect.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Every day you walk in here, you are being interviewed for your next position. So you need to treat it as such, and dress as you are coming to the next interview so you can be promoted. I never let my guard down to be too casual and always dress for success.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Build your voice early, protect your confidence fiercely, and seek out environments that recognize your value not just your labor.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in education is the lack of training and mentorship for new teachers. They are often just thrown into the classroom without proper orientation, welcome support, supplies, or shadowing opportunities, which is unprofessional and leads to things falling through.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and transparency are most important. I come with a pure heart and am open, which makes life smoother when everyone is clear and working toward a common goal even if they don't always agree.
