Her Story

About Isabel

Isabel Mwiraria serves as Head of Operations for TGC Talent, a recruitment company based in Santa Ana, California. She has nearly seven years of experience in recruitment, having started as a regular recruiter after volunteering in Kenya with literacy classes and support for groups facing addiction and health challenges. During the COVID period, she transitioned into remote recruitment work, quickly developing a passion for helping candidates find better career opportunities that support their families and long-term goals. Isabel advanced rapidly into management positions, where she mentors her team by instilling a sense of impact and purpose beyond routine tasks. Her approach emphasizes viewing candidates from a human perspective, asking about their weekends, family priorities, and ten-year aspirations to ensure thoughtful placements, resulting in very low turnover rates around two percent. She never attended college, making her current role particularly meaningful, and she takes pride in hiring individuals from similar backgrounds who have grown into management positions. Isabel attributes her professional success to her family and the specific goals and dreams she and her husband set early in their marriage, which fueled her determination. In her work, she prioritizes honesty to build trust and grants her team the freedom to be creative, allowing them to find their own effective methods rather than following a single prescribed approach. Outside of her role, she supports philanthropic efforts including Feed America through food banks and soup kitchens, as well as the Endo Excision for All foundation, which aids women needing endometriosis surgery.

My family and the specific goals and dreams my husband and I set for our life together right after getting married drove my tenacity to make them a reality instead of a pipe dream.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Dive into an industry that you're passionate about. You can recruit in any field, so pick something you genuinely love like engineering or law to stay close to what excites you.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty is essential to build trust, and giving people the freedom to be creative by finding their own ways to do things rather than one prescribed method.
