Her Story

About Isabella

My career has been a journey of exploration across many different industries over the past 11 years. I initially aspired to be a news reporter, but once I learned more about the scheduling demands of that industry, I realized it wasn't for me. However, I knew I wanted to do some sort of journalism work, which led me into social media management and content creation. Working in agency roles allowed me to wear many hats, and through that experience I discovered email marketing, which became my specialization. I've worked across diverse sectors including food, beauty, and automotive industries. I always knew I wanted to end up at a really big company that values its employees and offers room for growth. I was sought out by a contracting agency for my current role at a great Florida-based energy company - as a Florida native, I knew the company and it was my dream job. I've been in the corporate world for about 3 years now, focusing on email marketing campaign strategy and optimization, including the technical skills behind it. My typical day involves a lot of collaboration and teamwork, making our stakeholders happy, coordinating upcoming campaigns, keeping up with trends and email performance data, and having collaborative meetings. Beyond my core responsibilities, I serve as president of the Hispanic Organization for Latin Americans at my company, which means my day can range from deliverable-focused meetings to networking sessions about employee resource group initiatives. I recently achieved a promotion to senior title, which was a significant milestone for me since I had bounced around from roles where I didn't feel valued or couldn't achieve the growth I wanted. I also completed my MBA last year through a company cohort program, which allowed me to make more connections and become more well-rounded in business areas like finance, management skills, and leadership skills.

Ten minutes with Isabella

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say always believing in myself and knowing that I was capable of more. I wasn't afraid of staying stagnant, and I wasn't afraid of putting myself out there. I'll never forget one time I went to an interview and they called me out on the fact that I had really jumped around in my career. My response was, realistically, if it's for me, it's for me. I know my explanation as to why, and I can make it clear that I'm not scared to stand up for what I believe in and stand up for what's right. Putting myself out there has been key to my success.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would definitely say always keep an open mind and just be a good team player. Be easygoing and just go after what you want - build relationships because networking is very important. Don't give up and don't be overwhelmed by all the different tools that are out there that people seem to think are taking over our jobs, like AI. Learn to embrace it instead of fearing it.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say keeping an open mind about technology is a major challenge. There's a worry and fear for our jobs in the sense that we're living in a world where everything's trying to be automated. People think our job is just as simple as pushing a button - like pushing the play button and sending an email. The challenge is continuing to fight the good fight in terms of showing the value and what my position brings to the company, and demonstrating how much of an asset I am to the company. I think that just comes with the challenges of technology.
