Her Story

About Isabella

Isabella Guerra serves as Assistant Project Manager at SkyCon Group in Miami, Florida, where she manages multiple interior construction projects simultaneously, focusing on finishes, detailed aspects, materials, contracts, and job site coordination. She joined the company in March 2025 as a Project Management Intern, was promoted to Project Engineer, and advanced to her current position early the following year. Isabella is completing her bachelor's degree in construction management at Florida International University, with graduation planned for the summer of the next year. Her early exposure to the industry came through working with her father, who owns BlueWater Pool Services, a pool construction company. She previously held a front desk position at Florida International University while attending school. Isabella attributes her professional drive to her family's immigrant background and emphasis on hard work, and she emphasizes the importance of work-life balance amid the demands of juggling five to eight projects at once.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Isabella

01What do you attribute your success to?

My family most of all. My parents are immigrants from Venezuela who came here over 25 years ago and started their company from nothing. They instilled in us the mindset that you work hard and you can do anything if you keep trying no matter how many times you fail. I grew up with three parents essentially and had guidance like nobody else.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Believe in yourself and trust your own instincts. Put your 100% into it because if you're not, it's not really somewhere you want to be. Choose something you're passionate about and put your best foot forward every day, because otherwise it's going to get sad and hard and frustrating. Work is going to become part of your life so pick something you love.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be bold. Just start looking for places and somewhere something will see your talent. Get your foot in the door whatever way possible because it's a small industry and everyone knows everyone. Network and know who you're speaking to and how to speak to them.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Juggling 5 to 8 projects at a time in interior construction, making sure absolutely everything is perfect with materials, contracts, and job site needs. Maintaining work-life balance because projects run day and night and it's easy to get calls at all hours. It's a lot of documentation and perfectionism required.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

To be understanding and kind because you never know what people are going through. It's easy for things to get slipped into jokes but sometimes they're not, and commenting can be unnecessary unless there's actual reason to care. Kindness is key.
