About Isabella

I've been in the logistics field for about a year and a half, and I'm currently a Contract Analyst at Maersk, a position I've held for about six months since September of last year. Before this role, I completed three internships with Maersk. I started in event logistics working with parking and transportation at FIU for the entire campus, then moved to an internship with the Ocean Caribbean team at Maersk where I learned about the market and how to work with it. They then moved me to another internship with the West Coast team, where I learned about the West Coast market for intra-Americas. What I'm most proud of is that they were able to create a position for me to move into with the contract management team. I had an internship with them for two months, and then they offered me a position that wasn't open to anyone else to apply. In my current role, I take care of my own portfolio with clients from all over the world. Sales comes to me with opportunities, and I'm the one that prices the containers from one side of the world to another. I look at the opportunities, talk to sales, look at the market, and we find a way to price containers so that they can ship with us and we can work out a contract. I'm kind of like the middleman between everybody to see that everything works through. My main area of expertise is analytics, and I focus specifically on the intra-Americas and Caribbean side. Every day is completely different - you never have the same day twice. You get to work with people from different backgrounds and different areas, people who have learned a lot who can mentor you, to people that have no idea what's happening and you get to be kind of a mentor. It's dynamic every single day, which is a challenge but more of a blessing because you never have a boring day.

Ten minutes with Isabella

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To be ambitious, honestly. To not think that just because they're not in the spot someone else is, that they're not gonna make it. Logistics is a very big field that anyone can enter into, and they're obviously welcome to enter into whenever. And just to go with the flow of things - every single day is gonna be different. Just to be ambitious and be hungry for knowledge, honestly.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Every day is a completely different thing. You never have the same day twice. You get to work with people from different backgrounds, different areas, people who have learned a lot who can teach you and mentor you along the way, to people that have no idea what's happening and you get to be kind of a mentor. So it's the way it's dynamic every single day that is a challenge, but it's more of a blessing as well, because you never have a boring day.
