About Isata
Isata Barrie has been working in the medical field since 2013, beginning her career as a home health aide in New York. She currently serves as an MST at Mount Carmel, a role she began in June 2025, where she provides direct patient care including performing EKGs, taking vital signs, and conducting phlebotomy. Barrie earned her bachelor's degree in HIM in 2020 and holds MST and phlebotomy certifications. She is currently pursuing her BSN with the goal of advancing to become a family nurse practitioner. She attributes her professional success to completing her education and values continuous learning, noting the growing role of AI in the medical field for tasks such as billing, coding, scanning, and ultrasounds. Barrie advises aspiring professionals to pursue hard work, remain open-minded, and seek advice from others.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from finishing up my school. I have my bachelor's degree in HIM, trying to go back to do my BSN, then trying to see if I can go up to the NP level, nurse practitioner.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Trying to be the best I can be in my field, whatever field that I choose to pursue.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Hard work. You have to be open-minded. And you also have to seek advice.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Education is the key. We're always trying to learn something new, especially with the AI going on. We do have AI in engineering, AI in the medical field.
