Her Story

About Ivana

Ivana Solomon is a producer and project manager specializing in film and television production. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, she has worked in the industry since her teens, beginning as a talent host for ABC 30 and contributing to projects including the indie film Ride or Die, which screened at Tribeca and other festivals, as well as Top Chef. Solomon holds a degree in film, television, and video production from Webster University, where she graduated in 2023 following homeschooling and a study abroad program in Hua Hin, Thailand. She is currently establishing her own production company, Topkind, to create greater workflow consistency through brand storytelling, music videos, and media for businesses. Her expertise includes project management, location scouting, logistics, permitting, and interviewing subjects to translate brand stories into visuals. Solomon is pursuing PMP certification and attributes her success to industry mentors and professors who provided early opportunities in a gatekeeping field. She pays it forward through youth filmmaking workshops in partnership with the Black Rep and emphasizes authenticity, respect, and horizontal networking in her advice to others.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Ivana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to people in the industry who gave me a chance, especially professors who recommended me for jobs that led to more opportunities. It's a gatekeeping industry, so those first connections were crucial. I also try to pay it forward by helping others.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Treat everyone with respect and honor. Build your network horizontally with peers rather than vertically, to learn and grow together, exchange resources, and avoid power dynamics. Always have mentors but prioritize peer relationships.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't take negative experiences to heart, especially in a male-dominated field where women in leadership may face disrespect. Put in the work to overcome imposter syndrome, don't sell yourself short, keep sharpening your craft, and surround yourself with other women doing the same.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is having consistent work. After finishing a project like Top Chef, you have to look for the next job. That's why I'm creating my own company for more stability and workflow consistency.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity is number one. Don't compromise your values, whether religious, political, or personal. Be true to yourself to attract the right people and feel good about your work and who you are.
