Her Story

About Izabela

I currently work for Amazon in a delivery station warehouse, managing between 25 to 80 people on a daily basis. In what's considered a small warehouse relative to all that exist in the world, I handle volumes of somewhere between 20 to 40 thousand packages on the high end. I walk into the building pretty much alone with my two assistants, and I have to plan the volume for the day and figure out how many associates I'm going to need. It's not as easy as just the numbers side of things - it's knowing your people. I've learned through this job that it's about getting to know everybody, and even though there are new hires all the time, you need to have that personal knowledge about every single individual, what they're good at, what they can do, and how they can make your operation run smoothly. I graduated from University of Florida with a Master's in Marketing and have an undergrad degree in Business Administration Management, so I'm not too far off from what I studied. I initially wanted to do marketing, but I had a surgery and some recovery time in 2024, and afterward I was looking for work. I ended up getting recruited on LinkedIn and went through the process. I've been in my field for 1 year. I've learned to have a backbone - not everyone's going to like me, and I used to think I wanted everybody to like me, but at the end of the day, sometimes to drive results, you need to just have a backbone and know your field. I've learned how to work with so many different people from all different ages, late teens to late 50s and 60s, from different places, some who didn't even speak English. That experience is going to take me far. I'm currently working on starting my own business.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I've seen a lot of girls come in and out of this field, and it's a really hard job depending on the shift you're given. I would tell them if they work really hard, then this is a job for them. If they want to grow, this is the job for them, because there's room for that. Amazon is a company that values loyalty, and if you stay with them, they will honor that. But it depends on the environment they're looking for - it's a corporate setting, and some people like the operations side of things. If a young woman wanted to sit behind a desk, I would tell her this is not the job for her. If she wants to work hard with people, I would tell her, yes, this is totally the place for you.
