Her Story

About Jaci

Jaci Mathis serves as a communications and clarity coach through her firm Coaching for Clarity. She has 25 years of coaching experience, which she formalized five years ago, and previously worked as an IT professional for more than 30 years. In parallel with her IT career, her personal interests in awareness development led to coaching and mentoring. Nearly 30 years ago Mathis started the nonprofit You Belong, where she coached and mentored young women, including young mothers, and developed programs such as You Belong 2; she led the organization for 25 years before becoming an advisor. About 15 years ago she launched a small coaching firm focused on leadership and professional development. Her coaching model is 95 to 98 percent question-based and helps clients interrogate their own thoughts, reasons, and values so they can make decisions aligned with their personal integrity rather than external influences. Mathis coaches individuals, couples, men, and executives, and she currently serves as a culture advisor for a startup firm, where she emphasizes accountability and values alignment from the CEO to all team members.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To really take some time and assess your why. Dig into the heart of why you're doing what you're doing as opposed to the financial gain or opportunity. Test yourself on your why because businesses prime always the bottom dollar. When you align that with the reasons that they start business, it quickly gets out of alignment if there is no accountability or opportunity to remind them of why they started it. If you started it because you see a need that you want to meet, then how are you monitoring how you're meeting that need against the money that you're making.
