Her Story
About Jackie
Jackie Eubanks serves as a business manager and property manager in the multifamily industry in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she has worked for 22 years. She entered the field as a leasing agent after working at a daycare and quickly advanced, eventually serving as a regional manager before stepping back to focus on family. Eubanks takes pride in helping residents find housing and has worn many hats in her role, including handling complaints, acting as a resource for various resident needs, and providing customer service. She holds membership in the Arkansas Department Association and attributes her success to listening, learning from supervisors, and striving for growth, including plans to obtain her real estate license. Personally, Eubanks values stability in her career and peace in her life, and she is working to establish a nonprofit in her son's name to promote teen driving safety awareness after speaking at Thompson Drive-In School on the topic.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jackie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I'm striving for growth. I listen to what my supervisor says to me when we're having conversations, I learn from whatever she puts in me to learn, so I can later on maybe take that somewhere else. I want to eventually get back to being a regional manager and I'm also looking into getting my real estate license.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My first regional used to say to me, sometimes, Jackie, you just have to bite your tongue until it bleeds. At first I didn't understand it but as I progressed in my career I took that with me and I'm noticing now, yeah, sometimes you do have to just bite your tongue to the bleed. Sometimes it's not meant... some things it's better left unsaid so you can grow from it. I've learned that when I have a leader or like my supervisor that says things to me, now I just listen.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Have fun and smile. It's rewarding and a lot of people think that you normally have to have a college degree to do this, and you don't. This is one of the industries that you really don't have to have any type of degree. You'll start in being a leasing agent, and there's lots of growth in this industry, where you can grow from being a leasing agent to being a regional or an asset manager.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The economy is hurting us a little bit. Rents are so high in multifamily. It's everywhere, not just where I work.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my career, what I value the most is stability. Multifamily can be... you never know the change. Personally, based on me having to bury a child, I value my peace. I try not to let anything interrupt it. My peace is everything... I value my life, and life is short.
