What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my spiritual life, the faith and hope that drive every decision & action of mine, the supportive people I surround myself with, and my family’s unwavering encouragement.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
"Do small things with great love." - Mother Teresa
Looking back at my early career days, I see myself practicing this quote. As a young professional, I enjoyed my work and did it with great joy. Twenty-plus years later, nothing much has changed. I still enjoy my work and approach it with pride, love, and joy.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
To all the young women stepping into this industry, my advice is to be open to every opportunity that comes your way. Embrace each project and piece of work with pride. One day, you will look back and realize that these steppingstones have shaped your career and elevated it to new heights.
Do not heed to the negative voices or give up. The choices you make today will pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. Always remember that success follows wisdom, and wisdom follows humility. Be humble, no matter the profession or the stage of your career.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Opportunities - Opportunities are unlimited, but as in every profession, you have to go get them. Find opportunities to showcase your work and talent on platforms or to executive audiences to make your work shine. Know what you are good at and present the best side of your work. Remember, you are the best advocate for yourself.
Strategic and Operational Tasks - Learn to maneuver between strategic work and operational tasks. Both can often coincide, but prioritizing work is essential in every profession.
Effective Communication - Communicating with people at all levels requires intellectual pivoting, which is absolutely necessary in an HR role. Knowing who to say what to and how much to say is crucial, as confidentiality is at the core of many things we do in Human Resources.
No matter what the challenge is, keep the human in human resources.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity - I hold this value very dear to me, both in my personal and professional life. My actions reflect this value, whether visible or invisible to the world around me. It gives me peace of mind knowing I have been true to my heart and my endeavors.
Humility & Compassion - I remind myself every day to embody humility and compassion, especially when work pressure can obscure who I strive to be. I try to be mindful of how I present myself to those around me, regardless of the environment or others' values.
