Her Story

About Jaclyn

Jaclyn Keyes is the Director of Food and Beverage at the Hilton Canopy in Phoenix, Arizona, where she oversees two restaurants, including a fine dining venue on the first floor and a rooftop bar, pool, and lounge. She began her career in her family's restaurant, Tex-Mex Connection, in North Wales, Pennsylvania, starting with tasks like washing glasses and advancing through roles as a dishwasher, busser, server, bartender, and bar manager. Seeking independent growth, she left the family business and later joined the Hilton Canopy, where she improved guest ratings and reviews by adjusting pricing strategies, implementing new POS and EMV systems, and fostering a team-oriented environment. Keyes attributes her professional success to the examples of her mother, a single parent who built her own business, and her aunt, known as Hurricane Jane, both of whom demonstrated resilience and achievement as women in business. She values clear communication and encourages staff to treat their sections as their own real estate while leading by example, often rolling up her sleeves to support the team directly.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jaclyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

Honestly, it would be my mom and my aunt. I watched my mom as a single mother work as hard as she could to make sure her kids had what they needed. Now my mom has her own business and is doing phenomenal. Same with my aunt, they call her Hurricane Jane. Seeing two women become so successful and known for who they are and what they do made me want to be the same way. Being a woman in the industry, especially growing up, it was not easy working my way up into management.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I just really truly feel like it's important that everybody look at their sections as their real estate. You have control over this section, that's where you're gonna make your money, but it's very apparent and guests see it too. Guests see the servers that are there for themselves and the servers that are there to be a part of the team and help everybody else. You spend upwards of 60, 70, 80 hours a week with these people, they become your family. Communication to me is huge.
