About Jaclynn
Jaclynn Shearer Willert is a sports philanthropy and social impact leader with more than 20 years of experience connecting professional athletes, sports organizations, and charitable causes. She currently serves as Head and Founder of Team Freedom at International Justice Mission (IJM), where she developed a professional athlete platform focused on ending slavery and human trafficking. What began with a vision to engage professional athletes has expanded across the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, U.S. soccer, and the Olympic community, creating a powerful network of athletes using their influence to advance global justice.
Willert began her career through an internship with D.C. United, where she worked in community relations and supported charitable initiatives involving professional players. She later spent seven years with the NFL Players Association in player services and leadership roles, developing programs and working directly with athletes interested in charitable impact. She joined IJM in 2011 and progressed through strategic events and professional athlete partnership roles before founding Team Freedom. Under her leadership, the initiative has raised approximately $25 million and has connected athletes with IJM’s anti-trafficking work around the world, including visits to international field offices and participation in major awareness campaigns and Super Bowl-related anti-trafficking initiatives.
Willert holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a Public Relations concentration from George Mason University, with a focus on sports and influencer marketing. She is a founding member of Women in Sports and Events (WISE) and serves on the Stevens Children Advisory Committee, supporting children living in poverty in Cairo, Egypt. Her professional philosophy centers on building relationships, following purpose, and using influence for good. She encourages emerging professionals to cultivate authentic networks, remain open to unconventional career moves, and recognize that their platforms can create meaningful impact long before they reach the end of their careers.

Ten minutes with Jaclynn
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young professionals to build authentic relationships before they need them. Sports is an extremely relationship-driven industry, and genuine connections can open doors that a résumé alone cannot. Take the time to understand people, learn their goals, and look for meaningful ways to add value.
I also believe it is important not to be afraid to take a step backward in title or responsibility if it creates an opportunity to enter an industry or organization where you ultimately want to build your career. Sometimes a smaller position can become the pathway to a much larger opportunity.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Faith is important to me, and I believe strongly in using influence, relationships, and professional platforms to create meaningful social impact. I am also deeply motivated by service, authentic relationships, and creating a positive legacy through the work I do.
