About Jacqueline

Jacqueline DeMarco serves as Clinical Lead in Population Health at Independent Health. In this role, she applies strategic clinical perspectives to data evaluation, program development, and quality initiatives that support health outcomes for members in the community. With more than 27 years of experience in nursing, including time in acute hospital care, medical rehabilitation, and health plans, she transitioned to the healthcare insurance industry about 23 years ago after working in inpatient settings. She previously spent 24 years at another local health plan in various roles. DeMarco earned her Associate's Degree in Nursing from Trocaire College in Buffalo, New York, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from D'Youville College. She has been a Certified Case Manager for about 20 years. Her professional affiliations include the Commission for Case Management, the Alliance of Community Health Plans, the Western New York Prenatal Collaborative, United Way, and the Alzheimer's Association. She attributes her success to a learning mindset, authenticity, adaptability, and intentionality in working toward shared goals that improve clinical outcomes. 01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to having a learning mindset, being authentic to myself and my beliefs, being adaptable and intentional, and using all of those things to work towards shared goals that improve clinical outcomes for people and my community.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage them to build strong clinical judgment skills, seek mentors when able and take advantage of those mentoring opportunities, and be open to the possibilities of how we can improve health outcomes through innovation in healthcare today.
