Her Story

About Jacqueline

Jacqueline Newman is a matrimonial attorney and the managing partner of her firm. She began her career in 1998 and has practiced matrimonial law for 28 years, focusing on divorce, prenuptial agreements, litigation, mediation, and collaborative law, particularly in the high net worth space. Under her leadership, the firm has grown to approximately 37 attorneys across three offices in New York, with plans for further expansion, while maintaining a strong culture of closeness and support among colleagues. Newman founded the 2181 Alliance, a network of women managing partners across the country aimed at advancing gender equity in law firm leadership. She also established the Gift of Giving Store, a charity that creates pop-up stores in domestic abuse shelters so children can shop for Mother's Day gifts using statements of self-affirmation. Newman attributes her success to caring deeply about the people she works with, treating them as individuals rather than numbers, and meeting them where they are to help them grow. She values creativity, flexibility, honesty, transparency, respect, and karma, and believes professionals can balance ambitious careers with family life without sacrifice, as demonstrated by her own experiences as a class mom and involved parent alongside building her firm and charitable initiatives. Her interest in the field stems from her parents' work as psychotherapists and her fascination with people and relationships.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jacqueline

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it is generally caring about the people that I work with and love. Recognizing that they're not just numbers. Meeting people where they are and helping them grow helps me grow. We're all in it together.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be creative and flexible. Just because something was done one way doesn't mean it's how it has to be done always. I like doing things that no one's done before. The more you are having fun in what you do, the more contagious that is for other people.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I am a big believer that the saying you can't have it all is just not true. It's just a question of balancing. I've been class mom at all my kids' events, I've been incredibly involved in every little piece of their lives, and I managed to grow a law firm, impact charity and do things that are passionate for me. You don't need to sacrifice your career and your ambition to raise children, I think you can do both. It's just hard.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Creativity and flexibility. Being really honest to yourself and to others, and being transparent. Treating people with respect no matter who they are. Karma. The more that you honor people and meet them where they are and respect them, the more that they will respect you.
