Ten minutes with Jacqueline
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to faith, perseverance, and a genuine desire to help others. My 36 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist taught me the importance of listening, empathy, creativity, and adapting to individual needs. I carry these same values into my voice acting and audiobook narration career, which I began in 2023 after retirement. I believe success comes from being willing to learn, embracing new challenges, and stepping outside my comfort zone. Through prayer, faith, and a commitment to lifelong growth, I continue to discover new opportunities to use my experience and skills to connect with others and make a meaningful difference.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I would give is to stay grounded in faith, keep moving forward, and never stop learning. Life and careers do not always go as planned, but perseverance and a strong sense of purpose can help us navigate challenges and embrace new opportunities. I also believe in building genuine professional relationships, learning from mentors, networking strategically, and asking questions. My transition from speech-language pathology to voice acting taught me that it is never too late to pursue a new passion and that the skills and experiences we gain throughout life can serve as a foundation for new beginnings.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women is to invest in your skills, seek mentors, and build genuine professional relationships. Learn your craft, welcome constructive feedback, and research training opportunities carefully before making financial commitments. Network strategically and surround yourself with people who support your growth. Most importantly, believe in yourself and never feel pressured to make yourself smaller in a competitive environment. Embrace your unique experiences, share your ideas confidently, and remember that your voice and perspective deserve to be heard.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I believe one of the biggest challenges in voice acting is the strong competition and the investment required for training and equipment. However, the industry also offers exciting opportunities for women to share diverse stories and reach audiences through audiobooks, narration, and digital media. Aspiring performers need to develop their technical skills, understand the business side of the industry, and build genuine professional relationships. My background in speech-language pathology gives me a unique perspective on communication and storytelling, and I believe authenticity, versatility, and meaningful human connection are essential to succeeding in this field.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are faith, integrity, compassion, respect, and service to others. I believe everyone deserves dignity, understanding, and the opportunity to be heard. Throughout my career, I have strived to approach my work with patience, creativity, professionalism, and a commitment to lifelong learning. My faith guides me through challenges and reminds me to use my talents to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Whether helping people communicate or bringing stories to life through voice acting, I value meaningful connections and believe it is never too late to grow, pursue new dreams, and inspire others.
